Osong (오송), 2013
CNC cut aluminum, bearings, servo motor, plastic panels, web-enabled microcontroller, steel shaft. 4ft x 2 ft. x2 ft.
Osong 오송 (5 Pine Trees in Korean) is a public biomimetic kinetic installation for the Osong train station (part of the Korean KTX high-speed transit system). The sculpture reads humidity information obtained from online weather sources and opens and closes in the same way a living pine cone responds to ambient humidity.
